Nagahama city has been known as a town of "Hama-Chirimen", that is a unique silk crepe. This superior clothing material is said to had been weaved from A.D.712, and today's Hama-Chirimen was developed by Mr. Rinsuke Nakamura in 1752.
By the Industrialization of making clothes, "Hama-Chirimen" that is made by hand work become declined just as well as the other traditional craftworks. But now, several textile artists use this beautiful material and designed the new clothing. And young women pay attentions to these "New Hama-Chirimen" style.
