Junk Point Killed by Norton?
story I got this HDD at ruined(?)"I2 special branch of mobilePC" in Akihabara. My ThinkPad535 that I got in 1998 was intalled 1.08GB of HDD, but There are few free space remained in this HDD with 700MB of map data file of car navigation software and MP3 data. So I got Windows95OSR2(which supports more than 2.1GB of HDD).
But This drive originally have some problems. It sounds shipping noise of HDD head frequently and noisly. Moreever The error "FAT description of boot area is missing or miswriten".
Normally, the shop can change it for normal one. But the HDD worked normally although the error is indicated by scandisk. and I was too busy to visit Akihabara and tired of reinstalling operating system. So I've used this HDD for a long time.
There is a Japanese wisdom "long life with one disease", which is arranged from a prayer in shrine "long life without disease". A man who has one disease can live longer than those who have no diseases because he take care of himself more.
But....the fatal day has come at last.
One day I turn on ThinkPad535, and heard the louder sound of HDD. I quickly planned to back up the data on this HDD to server. At this time, I could read this HDD. But when I would started making image data file of HDD to write them on DVD-R, ThinkPad rashed to access to HDD..."What happend?!"....I looked into the panel....
"Norton Internet Security..."
.....This "NIS" is "version2001" and Symantec finished the "liveUpdate" service of this version in Apr. 2004. But NIS2001 faithfully started "LiveUpdate Agent". I tried to stop it pushing "cancel" boton, but it was hard to respond, and I also hesitate to turn off the switch being anxious to give fatal damage to HDD. The crashing sound becomes loud more and more like heilstones hit a tin roof......and all was come to an end.
